We are always looking for hands-on activities that reinforce the new CCSS of (K.NBT.1) composing and decomposing numbers 11 to 19, that are engaging and rigorous. We found it: NUMBER BONDS! We used them during our Math RTI rotation last month and it was a hit!
Students use the small container to "shake and dump" the 20 double-sided counters. The students then slide the counters onto the ten frames. Here you see 11 yellow counters and 9 red counters. The final step is to record the counter compositions onto the Number Bonds sheet. Our students did a great job!
You asked for it and we are doing it! Yes, we are currently working on MATH extensions & activities and hope to have them ready just in time for you to begin planning next school year's lessons. They are CCSS based and teacher/student tested! Look for more information on TPT or this blog!
