One thing is certain: We love every student that walks into our classrooms each year. A while back we discovered that scrapbooks were being made at a another school up on the hill. We felt that our students also deserved their memories to be preserved in such a special way! So maybe our school didn't have the same resources... Maybe we had other issues to overcome... But we didn't let that stop us. We were on a mission to provide our students with a high quality education (along with as many perks as is possible)!
We typically put together one page per month. Above you can see that Cessy made a page with her student's self portrait and name printing along with a "My First Day Of School" photo. Cindy used her student's Bono painting along and the rules book that they made in class, and a student photo. Coloring and writing samples from the beginning of the school year are always great to use because they demonstrate just much students accomplish in just 9 months.
You can see our Halloween pages above. Cindy used student spider hands, while I used ghost hands. Both of us included photos of the children in their costumes.
Favorite classroom chants and festive family traditions can also be given their own page!
Fall calls for fun science and social studies lessons. So, we gather our projects and turn them into these scrapbook pages. Its a great way to preserve the learning! Parents love to see this (and I'm sure the students will too in 20 years!).
The last three pages down below are the "teacher page" from each of our classes. We take a photo with each individual child. It's one of our favorite pages! And the accompanying poem gets us every time. It turns out to be a favorite with the parents also. On the day of our Kindergarten Celebration (aka. culmination) we invite our families back to our classrooms for cake and we have the scrapbooks waiting for them on the students' desks. Families have an opportunity to sit with their child and look through their school year memories together. It's turned out to be one of our favorite things!
Peace, love, and public education!!!
